I'm reading the whole book now that I've got some time. There are plenty of machines in it, but it is really about people who happen to be designing a new computer called the Eagle. They are both good books but for our industry and definitely for what I do I think the first one bears more applicability. Author Samson “The Stick” Slater might just be onto something here. Back in my last term at Duke our technology strategy professor, Wes Cohen, assigned us two chapters from The Soul of a New Machine by Tracy Kidder. Kidder writes the book so that you feel like you are a fly on the wall in the meetings at Data General, a minicomputer vendor in the 1970s.
